Tippy Canoe!
Current mood: adventurous
So today Susan had the day off because her weekend got messed up last week. I asked her what she wanted to do, and she did the typical "well what do u want to do". After going back and fouth i finally said "something active. In fact there is this park i've been wanting to check out called Johnathan Dickenson State Park". She replied okay, how do we get there, and suggested that we take a picnic lunch. Sounds great to me. So i packed a lunch for us and off we went.
We get out there and finally there is a sign in the middle of nowhere for the turnoff. We pull over, and little did we know, as soon as u pull off the road, ur practically there! What you see, is what you get! LOL it's not much of a "nature trail" as i was told, and not much "real trees" but it would do. We paid our $4 admission fee and drove in to what we called "the Crows nest". It was a 10 min walk up this huge deck type deal to what looks like a cross between a treehouse, a stargazer, and a deck. It was neat as were at the highest point in the town, a whole 86 feet! LOL oh lordy! When they say Florida is flat...they mean, FLAT!
Anyways, we looked out at this dry boring land that was so hot and dusty it felt like the desert, only the Atlantic ocean was in sight. We took some pics and ate a snack up there and then decided to go drive down to the creek area to see if there was better "nature".
We get down there and we find a concession stand/gift/rental shop. We find out that we can rent boats. Were on a budget, and all we can afford is the canoe! I've never been canoeing before, and I am not the best swimmer so i was a bit scared to be honest. I've also seen way to many movies where they tip over! I am a bit reluctant but Susan continues to say "you want me to go camping with you, then you gotta go canoeing with me!" i say fair enough. We hand over our car keys, pay the fee, and the lady gives us a map and tells us where NOT to go, and some landmarks to use as time guides. Said "be back back 5pm at the latest, life vests and oars are out back, you're on your own hauling it down to the water, launching it and bringing it back! have fun!" Susan and I both look at each other and laugh at how crazy this seems that we are just "on our own!" but were up tot he challenge and we go for it!
We got the boat in the water really well, i got in first and then Susan. Once i was in i noticed how unstable these boats really are! OMG! i was freaking out! the slightest movement, and WOAH NELLY! you're a tippin'! We luckily had the dock there to hang onto to get our bearings, but i had no idea how the hell we were not gonna tip this thing once we got away from the dock. To be honest i was scared shitless! Before we pushed off this guy hollered down to us that Susan was facing the wrong direction! LOL he ran down and gave us some pointers. He said he had a boat like this one and that they weren't very stable. Yeah no shit yo!
He pointed out that cuz i'm in back that i have to steer. That to make a sharp turn to stick the deep in the water, and to alternate sides when our arms get tired. He said most of all "YOU GOTTA REALAX!" once you sit back and relax and get the hang of it, you'll enjoy it. And...off we went!
I do have to say he was right! once i chilled the fuck out and didn't make any sudden movements, we were good. We decided after all of that, that we are offically ready for marriage! Why you ask? well in order to Canoe sucessfully, one must first and foremost exercise BALANCE! secondly, TRUST! then PATIENCE, TEAMWORK, COMMUNICATION, COMPENSATION, ENDURANCE, STRENGTH, OH AND HUMOR! :) We sang, laughed, screamed, got scared, excited, felt the breeze on our faces, got wet, saw jumping fish, ran into a tree! feared bubbles for fear of gators! saw birds, and other boaters. We endured the "rocking of the boat" from other motor boats, and even saw some other couples out on the water who were NOT working together as well as we were, which made us see that were actually doing pretty damn good! and we felt proud of ourselves.
All in all, it was a "feel the fear, and do it anyway" experience for me. I was most afraid of tipping the boat because there were surely gators in this creek, and there was no shore to swim to! it was all swamp! no land in sight! So that was the scary part. the big IF we tip, WHERE the fuck do we go!?!? LOL Anyways...it was so awesome! i am very proud of us in working together, and am also very proud of Susan for as she put it, "We can't be much more one with nature then this!" and she is SO NOT a nature kinda gal! :)
I had a blast. I'm glad she made us go! It totally made the park worthwhile, and even adventurous!
Here's a slideshow of our day with "nature" :)
*Peats*
PS: THERE'S THIS BAR IN THE GORGE IN TROUTDALE OREGON THAT I USE TO DRIVE BY ALL THE TIME CALLED "THE TIPPY CANOE". I NEVER UNDERSTOOD THAT TILL NOW! AND BOY DOES THAT TAKE ON A WHOLE NEW MEANING FOR ME! I THINK I'LL ALWAYS THINK OF THIS CAONOE TRIP EVERY TIME I SEE THAT BAR AGAIN. :)

Sharkfangectomys heart attacks and film! oh my!
Hey everyone...
I've been in such a whirlwind of chaos that I haven't even slowed down to sleep! that's how bad things have gotten.
This weeks major events were as follows:
Had oral surgery last friday, and had a wisdom tooth pulled with no laughing gas, pills, or anything other than a local...as soon as it wore off, holy hell i was in pain! STILL am! It took like 45 minutes, which felt like eternity! i didn't think they would ever get it out! and as she was putting the novicane and other numbing agents in, i felt like my heart was gonna explode it was beating so fast. Scary! :( She had a heck of a time getting it out cuz it was still pretty rooted, but it needed to come out. Just look at this thing!!! it looks like a damn sharks fang!!! LOL

THEN....i got sick as hell from the narcotic pain killers, so was sick in bed and on the couch all weekend, and eating next to nothing. Head was splititng massivly and adding to my misery, untill i realized that I had not had any caffeine for 3 days! i was in caffeine withdrawl! GEEZ! So one iced quad caramel machiatto fixed that right up...and then Sarah cooked home made potato soup and grilled cheese for me while we watched L Word. I'm convinced it's home made cookin that makes everything all better!!
THEN ....monday i caught up on homework. Tuesday in class all day. Ready to go home and crash after class, but felt called to check the rental equipment book out, and see that all the light kits are booked for the entire week expect for that night! so checked it out, and knew i was in for a long night and next day. Finally ready to crash and veg out....phone rings.
My sister is the one calling...i decide to let it ring because i'm pooped and wanna relax. Later i check the message. "Hey Annie this is Jen, I really need you. Mom is having chest pains, and I need to take her up to the ER but nobody is here to stay with the girls. So if u get this message, come on over. Hurry!"
OMG!
I rush around, grab my bag and head over.
Darin is there before me. My mother is up and talking and fine and she's even going on and on about her last heart attack, and allt he things they had to do for her and I say "mom! treat now, talk later!" so she starts to gather her things, and they start to give instructions and walk out the door like they are going out to a show, and were the babysitters! it was crazy and surreal. And get this! as my mother is heading out the door, in the heat of the moment potentially having a heart attack, she STILL is hospitable, and is offering Darin and I home made cookies!!!! LOL it was totally amusing.
So I was up all night tuesday at thier house frantically trying to stay busy to keep my mind off things. Didn't want to call anyone, cuz everyone i know was sleeping and had to work the next day.
I manage to drift off around 6am, and my phone alarm goes off at 8. I have counseling at 9.
I get to counseling and have loads of material to dump and i do. after i'm all done venting and completely stressed out and delerious from not sleeping, she says those dreaded words..."Well Annie, there's something i need to tell you, i'm going to be leaving this agency in a couple months, and i've been breaking the news to my clients now, so we can start working on the transition..." *silence*
*silence*
I was pist! i was sad! i was angry! i was mad. I wanted to scream at her, i wanted to get up and walk out. I wanted to say "fuck you", i wanted to cry. It was a mixed emotional state...and i had been dreading this moment from day one. I told her months ago I was having trouble "letting her in" because it was inevitable that she would leave...cuz they always do. She said back to me word for word: "wellt hat's not gonna happen Annie, i'm not going anywhere."
UGH!
Yes, i know i've learned a lot from her, she's the best damn therapist i've ever had. She was truely the best. I know i'll take with me all these wonderful skills, and that she helped me through some really rough stuff.
However. You have to know that she is probably therapist 33 or something, and that every single one of those therapists left me or thier practice....not one of those was a mutual parting! and when u work thorugh stuff, u tend to really bond with that person and develop an attachment...and when they leave it leaves a wound. It heals...and soon it scars...but later another rips it back open...it heals and so on. So this has been really rough for me to let her in...and here we go again.
I'm so DONE!
I call a friend in a panic over this news, and really want to engage in "target behavior"...instead i'm instructed to go take my dog for a jog and do something extremely physical. WOW! it worked! and my dog was probably happy too :)
the whole rest of the day was a juggling act....and mind u i had not slept yet! I got done jogging at about noon. Had to take a friend to a doctors appointment by 2. Went and bought film during her appointment. Shot some pix when we got back to the house. Had yoga at 5pm. Came home and was up late shooting the digital photoshoot with the lighting kit till 11.
Went and saw my mom for an hour...then came home and FINALLY went to bed!
Woke up this morning...was an hour late for class....
sat through a photographic history lesson and then had lunch.
During my lunch break i continued to shoot the film assignment and a dose of caffeine.
Showed up to Photoshop class and everyone is leaving...i ask what's going on and i'm informed "Were going on a field trip!!!" WHAT!?!?!?
My teacher decided since it was below freezing outside that it was a perfect oppertunity to go out to Multnomah Falls and take pix!
Well wouldn't you know it...i didn't bring my freaking camera to school today! all i have is my film cam. I asked if that's okay, and she agrees.
so we load up into vans...and off we go.
Spent about a half hour shooting some georgeous pix of the falls all frozen. then my teacher bought us all hot chocolate!!! so sweet. and let me tell you, hot chocolate has never been so blissful! i hugged, and groped that cup like crazy! it felt sooooooo good on my frozen fingers!
I dont have my pix cuz they are film, but my friend Shasta took this georgous shot today!
Back to school....finally hear status on my mother that the angioplasty was a no go, and that the next step will be a double bipass surgery...but they cant do that if the tissue is dead. So they did some tests, but no results yet.
Next up developing all that film!
Into the darkroom we go...it's been months since i've been in one! i missed it sooo much. It felt so damn good to get my hands dirty, and smell those chemicals! :) teehee.
Paired up with my friend Mick and between the two of us, we developed six rolls of film in an hour! we go! :) got an extention on the assignment till saturday morning. Going to finish up tomorrow afternoon.
Run one last errand, and here i am! home and sitting! yeh!
Called my mom, and still no progress. She said to stay home and get some rest, and I can come see her in the monring.
Sounds good to me. I'm ready to crash!
So there u have it folks...my last crazy 168 hours!

Rough day for speed racer....
Today was a rough day. I woke up late cuz i was out all night. Killed part of last night sitting in a bar by myself drinking beer and journaling.
Today i planned to take Malakai for a Jog...and it didn't happen cuz i was "hung over" and couldn't get outta bed on time.
I then went to hang with my dear friend who is very depressed and grieving...and though we had a fabulous time and even had some fun....it's hard to be around someone who is depressed and not pick up on that energy yourself, especially if you have emotional issues.
Oh! and on my way to her house I was crusing along rocking out to music, and before i knew it there was a motorcycle cop coming up. By the time i saw him i knew i was screwed and there was no use slowing down. He jumped up, put on his lights, and hand signaled me to pull over.
I gracefully turned on my blinker, and pulled over.
He came up said "what's going on?"
i said "cruising apparently"
and he said "yeah you were going about 79 in a 65 zone when u were coming up on me".
I said "yeah i'm not use to how fast this thing drives yet"...
he said "do u know what year this car is"
i said "i think it's an 98".
"do you have insurence?"
"yeah."
"Okay i just need to see your liscence please".
*hands it over*
"i'll be right bacK".
I turned my music back on while i waited...shook my head and smiled and said "ce la vi!" (however u fucking spell it).
He came back and said "nomrally this is a $200 ticket, but you have such a great attitude and you pulled over right away safely, that i went ahead and lowered it to $98"
I said the unthinkable..."thank you"
and he said "thanks for your time".
"no problem".
and we went our seprate ways both smiling.
You know ur either loosing patience with the world, or just plain going with the flow of the storm when you smile and drive off amused after getting a ticket!
Then i was late picking up the girls from school...
rushing again...
speeding again.
Picked up my mom, drove her to doc appt.
Girls and I went down to Starbucks...more on that later.
rushed home...
rushed to school...
went to my Yoga class...REALLY needed it. Enjoyed it. Wish it was longer.
Stopped at Subway for dinner.
Rushed to my MA meeitng. Yep! i returned after 3 months of being gone. WEnt back tonight. cried. was honest. was rough.
Then went to the hospital. Visisted with my Gma for a half hour.
left her room welling up with tears.
claimed sanctuary in the meditation room.
cried. cried. and cried.
got in elevator. cried.
walked to the real santuary downstairs.
cried. cried. and cried.
walked to E.R., went to parking lot almost got hit by a car.
drove home.
tried to check our mail (the lock jams up with water in it and u have to really jimmy and ram it in there to get the key in).
broke the key right off into the lock. it melted like butter in my hand. i dont think i know my own strength right now.
it's jammed. i'll have to call the postoffice tomorrow to get it fixed.
anyways..finally came home.
here i am.
crying.
more tomorrow maybe...
guh nite.

WINTER BEACH/ROAD TRIP 08
oday I went on a mini road-trip to the beach with some friends. It was the rainest day we've had all year, and supposedly the windiest. There were snow advisorys in the hills, and it seemed like the perfect day to go out and play! :)
It was raining hard, so all the pix came out shitty...but it works for giving u an idea of the places we saw.
Highlights include:
Brenden singing sexyback "i'll let you whip me if a i misbehave!"
Brenden yelling out the window to seagulls and anyone who would listen "welcome to bebo! me like you sexy time!"
Watching the surfers at Surfers Paradise in Seaside.
Driving through puddles
Walk on the beach, and getting whipped with seaweed by Lil Jon
Hike back to the car from the beach
Chasing waterfalls...particular Munsun Falls
Offroading it to the waterfall...no comment.
Tunnel of trees
Using cell phones and mp3 players as flashlights to check the tranny fluid!
Good times....
